Tolls that Cause Businesses to Fail...
Businesses in London's Tolled Corridor feel the toll of tolling
Cause and effect… when a business slows down, or closes, do owners really know what happened? Did they ever see it coming?
With the future of tolling and the diversion that will flow into the streets, do business owners think customers driving by will stop to engage in transactions? Well, no! Not only will they not stop, but the locals will avoid businesses on diversion routes due to the increased traffic. And, if customers must pay a toll to come to a business, they will consider an alternative so as to not pay the toll.
This week we look at diversion and how tolls can effect businesses. And in our podcast we converse with Oregon State Representative Annessa Hartman. All on OregonTollingUpdates.com
In Short
Article 1 - KGW, last week, gave a good overview of the Joint Subcommittee meeting we talked about last week. The meeting, which took place on 2-9-24 continued to try to define the term diversion.
Article 2 - The New York Post looks into how Congestion/Cordon tolling has effected businesses in London. With Manhattan, June of 2024, soon to implement a similar toll system, there is much concern as to how it will impact business in the New York corridor.
FYI, NYSDOT toll authorities seemed to have settled on a toll rate of $15 per day. If you live there you do not pay to drive inside the corridor. But if you leave you do pay to come back home…
ODOT wasted a lot of the gas tax money on three pedestrian only bridges in Metro Portland. They refuse to maintain the roads for vehicles. It is obvious ODOT is not Oregon Department of Transportation but Oregon Department of Obstructing Transportation.
All this extra money pays for salaries and Cadillac health care and retirement benefits for ODOT employees. This state government is not a government but an overload.
