The Catacombs of ODOT 's Words...
Buried in the EA Study and ODOT's website menus lay words that may haunt us...
I do not know many people that enjoy paperwork. To fill out forms or read thru complex topics that even lawyers have to consult one another on to get clarity… well, not my thing.
Yes, it is difficult and time consuming, but sometimes little nuggets can be seen in the murky water. And sharing these nuggets, when wading thru ODOT’s documents, is what we like to do.
In Short
Article 1 - The Environmental Assessment Study (EAS) is now in the hands of the Federal Highway Administration. All signs point to their approving the I-205 Tolling Project despite the issues with ODOT’s incomplete work and oversights.
Appendix "A of the EAS is a great read of the “Comparison of Screening Alternatives”. On page 34, Section 3.5.3 note the larger ODOT Toll Program… I-84 and I-405. We keep trying to alert you all, tolling is a juggernaut that is design to control this State.
Article 2 - This ODOT link will take you to their “About Tolls and Pricing” page. Just a small detail, scroll down to “Features of Modern Toll Systems” and under that category click on “Reliable Travel”. A short paragraph which clearly states that successful tolling programs also provide alternative forms of transportation.
The I-205/Mobility Pricing Projects provide no alternatives… unless you consider biking or waking in the rain 10 miles an alternative.
Article 3 - Last week we mentioned ODOT is currently looking at other ways to raise money. Ironically, last week KGW was posting their own take on the money needs of ODOT.
A good video on the things we covered… well they got some of them.
